Asthma therapy

Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases in childhood and adolescence. Unfortunately, the disease is still often overlooked and treated too late or insufficiently. Consistent asthma therapy should be implemented in a timely manner especially in children and adolescents. This is important to prevent future exacerbations and to avoid long-term damage.

If it is suspected that your child may suffer from asthma, a detailed medical history is taken. Questions seek to find out the manner, frequency and timing of the complaints and if any allergic diseases are present in the child itself or in the family. After a thorough physical examination along with a lung function analysis and, if appropriate, the testing for possible allergies, can effective individual therapy be initiated.

The therapeutic agents that are commonly used sometimes cause uncertainty among parents. For example, glucocorticoids ("cortisone") are an important component of effective treatment to control the inflammatory process in the bronchi and thereby significantly the frequency and severity of asthma attacks. Please ask us if you have any doubts concerning your child´s therapy, but please do not change the therapy without first contacting us.

Asthma, unfortunately, is still not a curable disease as of today. But with a targeted, long-term therapy, it is possible to achieve a high quality of life almost free of symptoms and a nearly unrestricted physical performance capacity.
