Amblyopia screening

Amblyopia, also known as "lazy eye", is not due to a structural abnormality of the eye but is due to the brain having an eye "preference", where the images from the one eye are neglected and the vision not learned or processed correctly causing the affected child to have reduced vision.

In most cases, amblyopia develops in children in the first month of life. If it is not detected and treated, the amblyopia persists throughout life. The amblyopia screening is a completely painless and safe examination that takes only a few seconds and can be performed as early as infancy.

The cost of the screening is usually covered by the public insurance companies participating in the patient centered medical home program (HZV), as well as private insurers. For public medical insurances not participating in the HZV program, we offer the screening as a self-pay service.
